Previous Madagascan President Andry Rajoelina, deposed in a coup recently, has been stripped of his nationality from the current authorities.
This directive, authorized by recently appointed leader Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo, referenced Madagascan statutes stipulating that individuals who gained another nationality would forfeit their citizenship of Madagascar.
The former president, 51, acquired nationality of France ten years back, resulting in appeals for his exclusion from the last national vote. However, he resisted these demands and ultimately triumphed.
Rajoelina escaped the island country after weeks of protests over persistent power and water shortages, culminating in a seizure of power led by military leader Randrianirina.
Rajoelina has said he has concealed himself for his personal security, and his whereabouts are unknown.
When he disclosed his status as a French citizen prior to the recent presidential vote, he argued he had obtained discreetly it to make things easier for his kids enrolled in overseas.
Over the past few weeks, he had faced protests started by youth movement Gen Z Mada and motivated by comparable anti-government protests in Nepal, which were only exacerbated when his administration reacted with aggression.
The president dismissed his energy minister and then his government - but this failed to stop the calls for him to step down.
Demonstrators wished that Rajoelina would resign to create the path for a peaceful, change in leadership.
However, he clung to power, ultimately resulting in the armed forces, of which Randrianirina led, to take control.
Randrianirina took the oath and has formed a new government, pledging to conduct a vote within 24 months.
